Introduction

    Originally subordinated to Social Affairs Bureau, “ Factory and Mine Inspection Office, Kaohsiung City” was established by Kaohsiung City Government to carry out labor supervision and inspection missions on April 11, 1980 with authorization from the central government. Later, the office was renamed to “ Occupational Safety Office, Kaohsiung City” on July 1, 1986. On January 15, 1988, the full name of the organization was changed to “Occupational Safety Office, Labor Affairs Bureau Kaohsiung City Government ” under the subordination of the newly founded Labor Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government. Much concerned about the safety, health, and rights of laborers, Mayor Chen Chu expanded the establishment of the organization and promoted it to “Labor Standards Inspection Office, Labor Affairs Bureau, Kaohsiung City Government” on January 1, 2009.

    With “Respect Life and Care for the Safety and Health of Laborers” as its commitment and will, under the command and supervision of the Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan and the Labor Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, supervise and inspect the enforcement of the labor standards as stipulated in the Labor Inspection Law, the Labor Standards Act, the Labor Safety and Health Act, and other labor acts or regulations according to the current labor policies of the central government and the annual labor inspection guidelines of the Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan to protect the rights of laborers, prevent occupational injuries and diseases, increase the harmony of the labor-management relations, and promote the development of social civilization and the economic prosperity.
